Consideration when cleaning your electric golf cart, UTV or side by side

Before commencing any cleaning operation, ensure that the charging socket cover is firmly shut and that water cannot affect the vehicle’s batter or wiring.

Body panels should be hand washed, employing commercially available car wash shampoo and a soft sponge or chamois, cloth, then thoroughly but carefully rinsed using a hose with residential water pressure.

Note that the use of power or pressure washers may damage the paintwork on your electric vehicle and water ingress into sensitive electrical components can be a problem with these devices.

As with any electrical device, water coming into contact with the battery or electrical components may lead to short circuits, leading to burnt electrical circuits or components which in turn can cause fires, leakages and potential property damage.

Seats and floorboard should be wiped down or spot cleaned with mild detergent and a soft cloth. Caked dirt should be dislodged using a brush.

Prior to cleaning your vehicle’s seats, be sure to spot test your brand of detergent in an inconspicuous location before cleaning the rest of the seat.

Windshields, lights and tail lights should be cleaned with diluted mild car wash shampoo.

Be sure not to use glass cleaners on any plastic components as these can be irreparably damaged by these caustic solutions.

Wheels and tyres can be cleaned with commercial car wash shampoo being careful to avoid plastic components. Be aware that after washing your vehicle, wet brakes can display reduced braking ability and one may need to depress the brake pedal a few times in order to dry the brake pads.

Dirt or mud ingress into the inner walls of components and under the seats should be brushed away then whipped clean using a damp cloth. Ensure that water does not enter the under seat components which could lead to short circuits.
