Difference between an “ATV” i.e.: All-Terrain Vehicles or Side by Sides and “UTV” or Utility Terrain Vehicles.
A number of differences exist between UTV’s and ATV’s with the most prominent being the fact that whereas ATV’s are primarily designed for recreational endeavors, side by side’s or UTV’s are larger, more versatile vehicles engineered to be a workhorse for the farmer, hunter or industrialist.

COMPARISON BETWEEN UTV’s and Side-By-Sides
UTV’S
SIDE BY SIDES
- Design: UTV’s are in many ways more reminiscent of a car, sporting familiar controls such as traditional steering wheels, pedals etc. They are also engineered to be tough.
- Capacity: Utility Terrain Vehicles are designed to carry 2, 4 or 6 passengers.
- Use: UTV’s are generally employed in tough work environments including small farms, sports hunting and large industrial and educational complexes.
- Manoeuvrability: UTV’s are not as manoeuvrable as ATV’s but are infinitely more stable and ideally suited for ferrying loads and passengers.
Design: Typically, side-by-sides are UTV’s arranged with two seats abreast. Their controls are designed with familiarity to regular cars in mind. These vehicles feature regular steering wheels, acceleration and brake pedals and even roll cages for additional safety.
Capacity: Side-by-side models are designed as 2, 4 and 6 seater vehicles.
Use: As with UTV’s, side-by-sides are designed to be versatile, employed within work environments sporting handy features as standard including respectable cargo beds designed to carry heavy tool boxes or equipment.
